About the exhibition:

Borrowing from neighbors was once a commonplace practice. It kept us connected and was and part of the web of relations we had with those who lived in close proximity. Today, online purchases are shipped within hours and information can be discovered without leaving the couch. Our reliance on, and relationships with, those nearby have diminished. Two neighboring contemporary galleries located in Upstate NY, separated by 77 miles of Interstate, appreciate the value of being resources to one another. Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts in Binghamton, NY and Exhibit A in Corning, NY are collaborating on a tandem exhibition titled, A Cup of Sugar, which opens in August at the two art venues.

“Contemporary galleries outside of major metropolitan areas are few and far between. Trying to navigate the unique challenges we face in the business is what our friendship is based on. Well that, and a healthy dose of mutual respect.” says Exhibit A’s director, Ann Welles. “I can share my concerns with John (John Brunelli, director of ABFA) and get meaningful feedback. Collaborating on this show is a way of rewarding ourselves with a bit of fun."

The physical gallery is where the artist and audience converge through a curated experience. A Cup of Sugar will amplify this sentiment through its collaborative spirit.

“We are familiar with each other’s program and aesthetic tastes. Ann has shaped a quality program with her artists. This sense of quality is an important component to both of our visions and a unifying element for us to build upon for this exchange.” said John Brunelli, director of Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts, "Trading galleries seemed like exciting prospect for us both, as well as the artists involved and for our respective audiences.”

Exhibit A will include works from their program by: Robert Calafiore, David Dowler, Jennifer Halvorson, Jeremy Holmes, Valerie Kasinski, James Paulsen, and Robin Whiteman.
