Shifting Horizons

Paintings by Seth Tane

AN ONLINE EXCLUSIVE EXHIBITION

4 September 2020 - 2 October 2020

About the Exhibition:

Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts is pleased to announce its latest online exhibition, Seth Tane - Shifting Horizons. With Shifting Horizons, Tane considers metropolitan modes of transportation, industry, and creates contrast with the natural landscape.

Artist Statement:

How did I get here? Biking in from the Island at thirteen to the last stop on the F train to lurk Canal Street and the Village. Bound for the west coast as soon as possible... Trains, trucks, boats, ships, cranes & crawlers. Rigging, salvage, towing, steel, timber, rock & dirt... Cities, crowds and faces. All the while, photographing & painting like mad to celebrate it all." - Seth Tane

Seth Tane was born in New York City in 1953 and has been fascinated with the sights and sounds of the urban environment from childhood. With a natural facility for tools and constructing things his early goal as an artist was to build sculpture, first as a teenager in welded steel, and then later at the Rhode Island School of Design in the early ’70s working in mixed media. His appreciation of realist paintings always beckoned however, and he kept at learning the craft until he eventually considered himself a painter. The purchase and conversion of a small oil tanker in New York harbor in 1979 as studio space and live-aboard was an initiation into the working waterfront and precipitated earning a captain’s license, learning to dive and setting up shop to do marine towing, diving, commercial salvage, launch service and line handling. During the same period he built and converted truck mounted cranes and used specialized equipment and techniques to perform rigging and transportation services of monumental sculptures for artists, galleries and museums in the NYC area.
