Artist Insights : Nadine Robbins

In our first ever Artist Insights, contemporary painter Nadine Robbins shares the process behind her latest work, Made for Walking.

After more than a year picking away at this oil painting, it’s finally done. I know I know I say this every time I finish a painting but this is one of my favorites. During the photo reference shoot, I knew that this would be one of the ones I would choose to paint. Bright colors, great composition, beautiful model, and the BOOTS! I loved the boots when I owned them. Sexy aren’t they? Sadly, after an ankle injury, I couldn’t wear them anymore, so the model, Lauren, and I bartered. She got the boots and I got some reference photos. Worked out very well for the both of us.

Strength and beauty can go hand in hand and she has the boots that are made for walking. But she stops for a minute to admire them before moving on. Shoes have a way of making you feel confident and beautiful. They can make a shitty day much better.

Do you have shoes you love? Put them on and walk around the house. It may make you feel better since you’re probably stuck at home.

The painting is called “Made for Walking”, 2020, Oil on linen, 72” x 36”. It’s available through my gallery Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts in a new show on Artsy called HERSTORY to celebrate Women’s History Month.
